La Chabotterie : presentation and practical information
Discover the Logis de la Chabotterie
The Logis of Chabotterie was built back in the middle of the 15th century. From 1992 to 1993, restauration work were conducted by the Vendee department Council, giving back the Chabotterie its original look from before the French revolution.
Houses' rooms
The unique lightling atmosphere and come-to-life sound effects staged in the rooms of this genuine historic house make the whole place feel inhabited again. Audio guides and booklet are available (in English, German, Dutch, Italian and Spanish) for a more in-depth visit of the houses rooms.

Walled garden and domain
The garden was recreated during the 90's renovation work of the domain, based on former 18th century plans. Usefulness and aestheticism are combined in this formal garden. More than 120 different varieties of flowers ares represented.
The Charette Cross
The Charette path leads to the Chabotterie woods, where this famous general of the Vendee civil war was arrested, in 1796. A monument, called "La croix de Charette" was erected in 1911 to commemorate his arrest.
The Chabotterie and the general Charette
François Anathase Charette de la Contrie was a famous leader during the Vendee civil war, in 1796. He fought against the republicain Army. His motto was "Fought against : often, beaten : sometimes, fallen : never".
He was arrested in The Chabotterie woods on the 23rd of March 1796 and executed in Nantes a few days later.
The Charette scenography
The Charette scenography, animated with videos and pictures, will highlight the important dates of the Vendee civil war, starting from the beginning of war until General Charette's arrest. You can learn more about this history by visiting the Historial of Vendee, located only 10 minutes away from the Chabotterie domain.
